Profiling female shearers in the Wimmera
In 2013, I captured a female-shearing fundraiser for Outback Magazine, writing and photographing the day's events. Stellar shearers from around the world flew into Harrow (pop. 200) in Victoria's west Wimmera region answering a call out to compete and raise funds for cancer research, while supporting one of the industry's most awarded woolhanders, Joanne (Jo) Kumeroa. The event was also covered by ABC's Landline. (Their live footage is worth a look!) Jo competed in the all-day event despite having cancer and graciously allowed me to interview her for the story. It was a privilege to meet her and this dedicated community. Jo sadly passed away two years later.
