In 2005, I volunteered at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre in Canada's sub-arctic for 'bear season'. While I was (much) younger then, I'm still in awe of what I saw and hope one day to return. Climate change was evident even then with the local polar bear population (then 800 or so bears) forced to remain on land for longer each year, waiting for Hudson Bay to freeze over and connect them to their natural food source out at sea.
