Profiling female shearers in Victoria's Wimmera region
In 2013, I attended a female-shearing fundraiser in regional Victoria for Outback Magazine, writing and photographing the Labour Day weekend event.
Shearers from around the world flew into Harrow (pop. 200) in Victoria's west Wimmera region answering a call to compete and raise funds for cancer research, and support one of the industry's most awarded woolhanders, Joanne (Jo) Kumeroa.
Jo competed in the all-day event despite undergoing cancer treatment at the time and graciously allowed me to interview her for the story. It was a privilege to meet Jo and spend time in this community. Sadly Jo passed away two years later.
The event was also covered by ABC's excellent Landline crew.
